Trend Spotlight: Ethnicraft

I have this artsy friend who has a really eclectic sense of design. Her home is filled with, art, furniture accent pieces and planters culled from her extensive globetrotting days after college. While nothing actually matches, the vibrant colors, rich textures and varying base materials make this absolutely perfect collage of belonging that make you want to be a guest in her home for the long-term. I’m not quite sure how she ever gets anyone to leave.

The Ethnicraft trend celebrates diversity and sparks an individuality that simply can’t be replicated. It’s a way to embrace imperfections and use cultural influences to create a perfectly imperfect atmosphere that nourishes its occupants with nostalgia and ancient tradition.

Colors

Anything goes. The basic principle is this: if you love a color, bring it in. The beauty of Ethnicraft is that it’s a veritable melting pot of color and texture. Whatever it is that brings you joy can be merged into this bohemian style. Some designers are drawn to certain color combinations in one room and something completely different in another. Anchoring the room with neutral paint and some of the larger furniture pieces allows extensive freedom with the rest!

Textures

Luxurious textures are the heart of the Ethnicraft trend. Culture and tradition are evident in many textiles and they are often embellished with beadwork, embroidery and even jewels.  These textures are typically not mass-produced but, rather, they are the lovely product of an individual craftsperson.

Inspiration

How does it make you feel? Ethnicraft is both energizing and comforting. It places value on tradition, culture and heritage which lends such a sense of belonging.  The emphasis on handcrafted pieces brings an innovative edge and nudges you toward your own creativity.

Filled with artisanal imperfections, this style is perfect for those who delight in an unconventional or even slightly eccentric look. It’s a way to both embrace many years of tradition and eschew the ordinary…all at the same time.
