Trend Spotlight: Foliage

Since the beginning of time, we’ve been bringing nature into our homes. Humans have a primal connectivity to the earth; being close to it reduces our heart rates, lowers our blood pressure and even combats depression. Nature, especially in the era of constant technological interruption, is a welcome visitor in our homes. The foliage trend aims to make it a permanent resident.

The foliage trend brings greens into our living spaces.  And it doesn’t just include fabric and wall paint. It also focuses on incorporating plants and decorative trees to freshen our air and to literally liven up our rooms.

Colors

It’s not that easy being green. Or is it?  Green is a natural calming color. It’s a color that’s associated with life’s riches, both in nature and monetarily. The greens in the foliage trend are deep with hints of blues and greys.  If the greens you are using could belong outside just as easily as they belong in, then you’re on the right track.

Wooden thoughts. Nothing complements a leafy green like a natural wood or a brown.

Whiteout. An airy white is a perfect partner to a forest green. And if you pair the green with white and wood, you’ve definitely got a winning foliage combination.

Textures

Think vitality and growth with the foliage trend.  Use textures that elicit thoughts of jungle vines, soaring lush trees and forest floors. Both soft and airy and sturdy earthiness would be the textures to associate with this design.

How does it make you feel?

Utilizing green in our design spaces can rejuvenate and restore our weary spirits. The foliage trend is intent on bringing balance into our harried lives and reminding us that our homes are supposed to be our sanctuaries.

Foliage as a trend is restorative and filled with vitality. It’s a perfect way to blend our desire for nature into the living spaces we retreat to for rest.  It brings to mind the bounty of our earth and our connection to it.  It may be the perfect time to think green.
