New Year: New Color Classic Blue: 2020 Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone Color of the Year: Classic Blue

Can you believe it’s been 20 years since Pantone forecasted their very first Color of the Year – Cerulean Blue, “Color of the Millennium”? The iconic-ness one color can do to an era is incredible, but don’t take our word for it. Hear from the mouth of one cool babe, Meryl Streep in Devil Wears Prada.

Fast forward to the 2020 Color of the Year and there has been a lot of buzz circulating on what Pantone chose to kick off the new decade – Classic Blue. We find it fitting, taking it back to the blue basics, with a calm yet thought-provoking feel. “We’re returning to classics because everything has been chaotic in the world,” Laurie Pressman, VP of The Pantone Color Institute revealed to HF Inner Circle. “It’s not about doing it like you did in the past, but reinterpreting it.”

Time stated, while referencing the color, that “The indigo hue brings to mind both the constant and the classic; the sky at dusk, an impeccably tailored suit, serene waters, or a bowl of perfectly ripe blueberries.”
